I'm Done Being Your Best Friend! Chapter 5

IDBYB | Chapter 5 - Going on a Trip

The first time I met Daisy was when we were 15 years of age. I had just arrived at the capital, fresh from the lands of Marquisate.

I knew no one. That's why I couldn't easily hang out with young people around my age, even when my mother took me to tea parties with her to make friends.

It was then that Daisy came up to me first when I was sitting alone in the corner.

"Hello, are you Marquis Nelson's daughter? I'm Daisy, daughter of Count Moore. Why don't we have a chat together, if you don't mind?"

She was like a ray of light to me, who was so shy around strangers. How my heart skipped a beat after she smiled at me. Her beauty was unrivaled amongst the young ladies in that tea party.

Daisy talked to me about anything trivial so that I wouldn't feel awkward. How can she speak so gracefully and sweetly? I had admired it several times in my mind.

Daisy said before our parting that day.

"I want to be friends with you. I think we'll get along quite well.”

But all of it was just a trick for the main character to find her perfect best friend.

Knowing nothing, I nodded in joy at her words. Sienna's life as a pushover has begun.

* * *

It was apparent that Daisy took me around to every gathering, to every tea party, and even a nonsensical stroll along the side of the streets to make herself shine more.

With her voluminous blond hair, tip-tilted blue eyes, and cheerful attitude, Daisy had always been considered the brightest among the young ladies in our circle.

By far comparison, I had sandy brown hair always plaited in a simple coil and gray-blue eyes. The colors I was born with, though wholesome, were dull.

When the two of us walked together, people would look at us alternately and immediately noticed we were polar opposites. Finally, they would be looking at Daisy with pure admiration and forgot about the existence of the dull girl beside her.

We were repeatedly compared to each other, but even so, I still liked Daisy because she was my only friend.

There's one time a certain young man whom I used to like rejected me because he liked Daisy, and to my embarrassment, even recited our differences. This happened after the day Daisy told me she would be supporting me by the side if I confess and confess I did.

......I was such a pushover. Daisy already knew that the guy liked her. Still, she told me to confess. Now I realized she only did that to humiliate me.

Daisy woke me up from yet another deep thought, looking impatient. She prompted me to take a trip right now like I didn't fell off from a tree an hour ago.

"Sienna. Can we go?”

I stared at Daisy, contemplating whether I should reject this or not. I knew what was going to happen if we went to the Marquisate.

I'll run into him again—one of the few dukes in the Kingdom of Beland, Duke Harrison.

In Marquisate, far from the capital, I ran into him. No, I discovered him.

It was a bright day when I was taking a stroll without Daisy, and I happened to see him passed out on the side of the road. Few people were only looking at him in passing, as if a person fainting on the streets was a natural occurrence.

What would I have done if a person fell? Of course, I naturally tried to save him. However, at that time, I didn't even know he was a duke.

As I got close enough, I instantly noticed there's a trail of blood on his forehead. I was shocked though it was fleeting as I immediately called for help from my escort.

"Sir Bolt! Help me! A man is bleeding here!"

He would have been left alone if I hadn't found him and probably might die right there by the road. Eventually, he thanked me, for he was able to get treatment sooner.

At first, he introduced himself as a commoner, so I honestly thought he was a commoner.

After coming back to the capital of Cardiff, I received an invitation in the name of Duke Harrison, before I realized that he was the Duke.

He invited me and said I could bring my friend Daisy along, but at the time, Daisy asked me for a favor.

"Sienna. I have something to tell the Duke, but...Can I go alone this time?”

I listened to Daisy without much thought. I refused his invitation on the account that I had circumstances.

I can guess why Daisy wanted to go their alone—to become a duchess.

It was clear that she was aiming for the position of Duchess Harrison. I'm sure you wanted to have a delightful conversation without me.

But Daisy's wish came to the other side. Daisy wasn't the only guest who visited the Duke Harrison that day.

As a result, Daisy became Duchess Grint, not Duchess Harrison.

"Sienna? Are you listening to me?”

Daisy hastened me because I was not responding for a long time. I stared at Daisy, looking at me with doe-like eyes.

By the way, why did Daisy hate me? This was the biggest question I had since the beginning. She helped my husband's business go bankrupt, leaving me out of society's inner circle, and leaving me alone as a best friend.

Why? What have I'd done wrong? I had no reason to hate Daisy. I've always stood by her side, quietly and obediently.

But she paid it back with her betrayal. Daisy's words in front of me before my death contained clear malice.

I wanted to know why. Why you had done that to me, wouldn't it be less unfair to know why?

And I want to pay you back the most. I wanted to give you the immense pain I felt. I will let you taste the backstabbing of a friend.

I chose to achieve my purpose—to go to the Marquisate with Daisy.

"Yes, you're right. We will go there together.”

But it won't go the same way as before.

This time, I'll change the future.

* * *

The carriage carrying me and Daisy rattled. The road was getting harder and rougher as it was getting out of the capital and closer to the countryside.

Oh, my bum. As the carriage crossed one hump, my hips floated over the seat and then fell a bit hard. It's like this because it's the Marquis's carriage, but if it were a cheap carriage, my butt would have had left me already. I knew of this for certain because I'm using it quite often before returning to the past.

I was thinking about the past for a moment, and Daisy, sitting across me, suddenly spoke.

"You know, Sienna. Didn't you say that the Marquisate has the Fountain of Magic?”

"Yes."

The magical fountain of showing one's fated partner was a speciality of the Marquisate of Nelson.

'If you show your face to the magic fountain at midnight, you will see your fated partner.’

Because of this rumor, there were occasional visitors to the Marquisate from all over the kingdom.

I visited there with Daisy in my previous life, but as a result, I saw nothing.

"Who am I going to see there?”

"Well, I don't know."

Do you think I'm a fortune-teller? You'll never see anything if you go there anyway.

Daisy was very interested in dating, both in the past and the present. Well, there's no harm in that.

'You'll marry someone from your family anyway. What's the use of fate?'

I got into a lot of trouble for marrying Count Page for this thought.

It was a very good thing to pay attention to your future. Daisy was of this nature, so obviously, she would have gone beyond Count Page and aimed at the Duke Grint.

But what happens if I interfere with it? When Daisy became a Duchess, she gleefully claimed she's higher than me. So this time, I'm not going to let her become the Duchess.

What if I pretended to be her friend and stabbed her in the back one day? What kind of face will Daisy have then?

The thought made me smile. Daisy asked immediately, seemingly interested.

"Sienna, why are you smiling? Did you have any good ideas?”

"Yes."

I thought I'd destroy your ambitions.

"I'm looking forward to playing with you."

"Oh, my God, Sienna. So do I."

Daisy smiled brightly. Do you even know what I'm thinking?

Hiding my innermost thoughts, I laughed alongside Daisy.
